Since the organisation gained University College title in 2013, membership has been delivered through the Institute of Financial Services - a part of the organisation dedicated to supporting professionalism in the sector and providing ongoing development to our current and former students - while the majority of our education programmes were delivered through ifs University College.
While this arrangement has proved effective at bringing focus to our membership and professional services activity, it became clear when we carried out our strategy review that the separation of activities in this way has caused some confusion. One of the key findings from discussions with members was a desire to more closely link our education and membership provision and subsequently, one of the key criteria when considering our new title was to find a name that is appropriate for both of these highly important areas.
We believe that The London Institute of Banking & Finance name is an important reference to our roots as the Institute of Bankers and is an accurate description of an education focused body with a linked remit to support professionalism and high standards in the sector. Offering membership and education under the same name will undoubtedly enhance the value, impact and recognition of both.
Benefit & services
Existing members will be able to access and benefit from all the services they currently receive after the name change comes into effect. However, as part of our ongoing strategy work, the services and benefits provided to members are also under review to ensure they are relevant, offer value for money and are genuinely supporting our members' professional and personal development.
The current membership titles and designations will change as a result of the new name but historical designations currently held by members (such as ACIB) will remain valid for as long as an individual’s membership is maintained.
