Why we chose to become The London Institute of Banking & Finance

In response to the findings of the strategic review and development of a new vision and strategy, the trustees of ifs University College asked the Executive to explore options for a new name for the organisation.

Central and fundamental to this consideration were the findings of the strategy review which involved detailed consultation with our current and former students across our range of full-time, professional and schools programmes, our members, our corporate and educational partners and our academic community.

These findings informed a series of core principles around which the new name was developed. The Executive decided that the new name should:

  • Support, enable and be relevant to our new vision
  • Provide instant recognition to stakeholders as to the nature of our organisation and offer
  • Assist prospective students and corporate clients in understanding our programmes, our style of learning and the experience of studying with us
  • Reference our 130 years of heritage in providing education to banking and finance professionals
  • Be appropriate for the breadth of our provision, enabling us to deliver all of our programmes under a single brand,  and articulate our coverage of both the academic and the vocational
  • Be highly relevant to the banking and finance industry - a key market for our programmes and also the sector that many of our students aspire to work within
  • Reflect our close links to the industry and our position at the heart of one of the world’s leading financial hubs

Based on the above principles we believe that The London Institute of Banking & Finance is a powerful new name for the organisation. Specifically we think that:

is the most appropriate term to describe a high quality education provider with its roots in the professional body movement that combines the academic and the vocational and delivers learning at a wide range of levels.

'Banking & Finance'

makes our focus and our subject specialism, as set out in our Royal Charter, clear and explicit

..is an important signifier of our deep-rooted connections to one of the world's leading financial and educational centres
