Paul Fisher is currently the first independent, non-executive Chairman of the London Bullion Market Association, after retiring from the Bank of England in July, 2016. Dr Fisher was a senior figure at the Bank of England for 26 years, including five years on the Monetary Policy Committee, two years on the interim Financial Policy Committee and a short time on the Board of the Prudential Regulation Authority.
Paul has a wide range of interests in economic and financial policy, with posts including a Senior Associate at the Cambridge University Institute of Sustainability Leadership; a visiting professor at the University of Richmond in London; and a member of the Systemic Policy Partnership. He has written and spoken extensively on diverse subjects such as business cycles, modelling of the UK economy, conditions in financial markets, central bank operations, regulatory reform and the risks arising from climate change. He achieved his PhD in macroeconomic modelling at the University of Warwick in 1990 where he had worked as a full-time researcher for the previous ten years.
