Certificate in Financial Administration and Planning (CeFAP®)

An efficient and cost-effective route for entry level financial advice roles which meets the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for paraplanners.

About the qualification

CeFAP has been developed for professionals working, or aspiring to work, in financial administration or paraplanning roles. The qualification acts as a stepping stone to our Diploma for Financial Advisers and qualifying to provide financial advice. 

The Certificate provides comprehensive foundation knowledge of products, services, regulation and legislation in the financial advice industry. You will develop the skills required to support and maintain appropriate and ethical client relationships and meet clients' priorities by considering a range of protection, investment and retirement funding products.

The Certificate in Financial Administration and Planning is a Level 3 qualification registered with Ofqual in the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF).

CeFAP consists of four mandatory units.

Unit 1 - Understanding the Financial Services Industry (UFSI)


The regulatory and legal framework underpinning the UK financial services industry.


Unit 2 - Understanding the Financial Services Environment (UFSE)


Main financial priorities of consumers and the range of financial products that could meet these priorities. As well as the impact of socio-economic factors and taxation on consumers. 


Unit 3 - Understanding the Financial Services Environment (UFSE)


The purpose and associated considerations of the different types of financial products, with particular emphasis on protection, investment and retirement funding products.


Unit 4 - Working with Clients in a Financial Planning Environment (WCFP)


The skills required to support and maintain appropriate client relationships and the ethical considerations to take into account. 



You will have online access to study texts immediately after registration has been completed and hard copies will also be provided. The study text contains review questions and activities to support your learning. A specimen paper is also provided and available online on your student account.

220 study hours are recommended.


CeFAP is assessed through a single 2-hour objective test split into the four units:

    Unit 1, 2 and 3
    25 multiple-choice questions each
    Unit 4
    Three case studies with five linked multiple-choice questions

The exam can be taken at over 150 Pearson VUE centres nationwide with the result provided on the day.
