Alumni fund scholarships

For the 2018–19 academic year we awarded four Alumni Fund Scholarships of £1,000 each to first year students. Three benefited UK students and one went to an international scholar.

These valuable scholarships fund students who might not otherwise be able to study a banking and finance degree in the heart of the City of London. We strongly believe that by bringing more talented young people into the industry, we’re not just helping them – we’re supporting the future of the industry.

Find out how Alumni Fund Scholarships have helped our students – both past and present.

The LiFE programme

Lessons in Financial Education (LiFE) is an online study programme that uses animation, games and music to make learning about managing money fun and accessible.

To build on the financial capability work we’ve done in schools, we've partnered with the charity, Special Needs Advisory and Activities Project (SNAAP) to develop the programme for vulnerable children and young adults.

We’ve been lucky to work with many excellent charities and community groups over the last two years, including Citizens’ Advice Southwark, Barnardo’s, Crisis, the Rising Sun Domestic Abuse Charity and the Salvation Army. We’ve also been able to reach homeless people through St Mungo’s, Catching Lives, Pathway and Porchlight.

Richard Barnard of Porchlight’s Jobs, Education and Training team, says it's not just about learning to manage money, but “saying ‘yes I can’ to many other things in day to day life”.

We’ve had such positive feedback from LiFE and are thrilled to be a finalist in the Money For Good category of the Green Gown Awards.

Our ambition now is to expand the LiFE programme and develop it for older age groups.

140th Anniversary appeal

Our 140th Anniversary appeal aims to raise £140,000 to finance more scholarships and the redevelopment of LiFE.

In the words of one of our scholars, Shima Begum, "Don’t think twice about donating – you’ll help every individual in a different way. You’ll inspire them in a different way!"

You can donate either online through our Virgin Money page or by downloading and completing our Donation form.

We are a registered charity, so if you choose to make a pledge in your will, your estate won't pay inheritance tax on the value of the your legacy. More importantly, your  legacy pledge will enable many more talented individuals will be able to study our programmes for years to come.

If you'd like to talk about how you can support our 140th Anniversary Appeal, please contact our Alumni Services team on +44 (0)20 7444 7129 or email alumni@libf.ac.uk.
