Fintech is bringing disruption and innovation to the financial services industry. The ever-changing nature of the sector makes for thrilling career journey. Discover whether fintech could be for you with our taster session. Our fintech module discusses one key innovation in finance, financial technologies, namely the development of e-commerce, alongside other modern technologies like social media, the importance of disintermediation, the rise of Challengers, peer to peer platforms (P2P), Crowdfunding, cryptography, cryptocurrency (e.g., bitcoin), blockchain, big data, cybersecurity, RegTech, and ultimately a potentially cashless society. This module is taught as a combination of workshops and guest speakers from the industry. Our Associate Director of the Centre for Digital Banking & Finance Richard Johnson will be leading the session. Richard Johnson, Associate Director of the Centre for Digital Banking & Finance, The London Institute of Banking & FinanceRichard started his career at NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland, where his 20 years' experience covered all sectors, especially retail banking, in front-line, advisory, strategic and senior line-management roles. In 2006 he joined Monitise, a technology start-up specialising in mobile banking and payments software, as Strategy Director. The business grew to a peak of more than 1000 employees, with deployments in Europe, the US and Asia. With his combination of large and small company experience, Richard is now an independent advisor to a range of businesses on their fintech strategies, as well as writing industry research and delivering executive education.
