The GoSimpleTax story

Amanda Swales, Director of GoSimpleTax at the FIA awards

Why did you enter the Financial Innovation Awards?

We entered to test our product against other great fintech offerings. Ultimately, we wanted to win to stamp the product with a recognition from a prestigious award and judging panel.

Could you please give us an outline of your winning project?

GoSimpleTax is an innovative piece of software, available online or through an app, that guides users through the self-assessment process.

It uses artificial intelligence to remind them to add in certain expenses, before sending the tax return straight to HMRC without the need for an accountant.

With over 20,000 tax returns submitted so far, we’ve made self-assessment simple and are making tax digital.

What would be your advice to people entering the awards this year?

Make your entry as interesting as possible. Make your brand and business stand out.

Tell your story, and have the evidence to back it up. Use financial and customer numbers. And include user quotes to reinforce your message.

What did winning the award mean to you?

It was amazing to hear our name being read out for ‘best financial start-up’.

The recognition of our hard work brings the team even closer, and fuels our desire to keep innovating and improving our products.

Why do you think it’s important for the sector to keep innovating?

Fintech makes a difference to individual’s financial health, focus and ability.

Constant innovation and pushing boundaries mean products become more intelligent, simple and autonomous – helping people achieve their financial goals where previously they may have struggled.
