Bankers and finance professionals coming together to discuss the future of banking and finance

15 April, 2019Juno Baker

The global banking and finance industry is going through a period of unprecedented change. The nature of money and the role of the sector is changing, and so are the skills and roles banks need to operate.

Computing power has put a bank, an asset management company, an insurance company, or a lender, just a tap or a swipe away. Guildhall-London

Technology is changing customer expectations and – combined with regulatory reform – is opening up the market to new models.

Trading is global, with political shifts challenging established relationships and technology changing how global trade is funded and managed.

And if that weren’t enough, we’re still dealing with the fallout from the 2008 global crisis and debating the role of finance in global society.

World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI)

In a changing and unpredictable world, bankers and financial institutions need to come together to exchange ideas, talk through the issues and share perspectives. For over four decades they have done this at the World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI).

The WCBI is a biennial global forum that brings together banking practitioners and educators, policy makers, regulators and service providers. Since 1975, the WCBI has been bringing financial services professionals together to discuss the future and the role of banking institutes in supporting the evolution of the sector.

Growth and sustainability in an age of disruption

This year, The London Institute of Banking & Finance will host the conference for the first time, at the Guildhall in the City of London in September.

Over two days, we will discuss growth and sustainability in an age of disruption, looking at both the challenges and the opportunities of our age. For example, we will explore how technology is opening up markets and how regulators can stay ahead of the curve in an evolving market.

We will find out more about green finance, clean growth and the role of banking in a sustainable global economy. And we will be looking ahead to what banks will be doing in 2029. You can see the full conference programme on this website.

Trends may be global, but banking systems vary across the world – as do the challenges and opportunities. This year’s conference will be an unmissable opportunity to take part in planning for the future of our sector.
