Inaugural Summer University

16 July, 2014

July saw ifs University College welcome nearly 50 AS Level students to its Lovat Lane campus in the City of London to find out more about the world of financial services, the experience of university life and studying our finance courses.

The three-day programme was designed to provide the students with insights into banking careers and the opportunities they can access through studying specialist degree programmes in finance, banking, accountancy and enterprise.

An interactive programme, the Summer University also tested the students’ financial education and financial capability through a series of exciting challenges such as a real-time trading simulation exercise, a financial quiz and a team building business challenge.

Hannah Laham, a student currently studying her AS Levels at Cheam High School said the programme had been thoroughly enjoyable and made her completely re-evaluate her career ambitions:

“I’ve really enjoyed my three days at the Summer University. It was a great experience and has given me a far clearer idea of what I want to do in my career. Like many students my age I didn’t really know what I wanted to do after university, but thanks to this programme I now am seriously thinking about a career in financial services.”

You never know, the future CEOs of Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Santander and many other institutions could very well point to ifs University College’s Summer University as the starting point of their careers and the inspiration for them to pursue a finance course!
