Professor James Byrne passed away this Sunday 1st of July after a long battle with cancer.
Responding to the sad news of the death of Professor James Byrne, David Morrish of The London Institute of Banking & Finance, said:
“James Byrne, Jim to his friends, was perhaps best known as Director of the Institute of International Banking Law & Practice based in Maryland USA. He was widely respected in the world of trade finance and was renowned for his knowledge and legal expertise, in particular, in the field of standby letters of credit. The International Standards and Practice for Standbys (ISP98) is very much his work and forms an integral part in both our Certificate for Documentary Credit Specialists and also our Certificate for Specialists in Demand Guarantees. He was also the author for the text of our Certificate in Trade Finance Compliance.
As an expert in his field he was insightful and always worth listening to. As recently as May this year Jim delivered the keynote address to a packed room at our Annual Trade Finance Conference, held in London. He will be greatly missed.”
