Pipster, a new mobile trading platform, recently challenged students from four London universities to take part in a competitive 28-day trading challenge to encourage young people to get ‘real life’ experience of trading and to test their new mobile trading app.
More than 260 students applied to take part in total, and a group of students studying our full-time undergraduate degree programmes came top of the league!
The Bull Run was a 28-day trading challenge for university students at Hult International Business School, Imperial College, The London Institute of Banking & Finance and Queen Mary University of London. The ‘Bull-Runners’, as participants in the competition were called, were each given £10,000 of virtual funds to trade in the app, had to create a trading strategy, practice trading Forex and Cryptocurrency, and share their learnings with Pipster’s online community. Prizes for the best performances were either £1000 in trading credit, or two month’s work experience at the London-based firm.
Students were competing as individuals, but their performance was assessed both individually and collectively as a university group. Four of our students placed were placed in the top four overall: 1st (Sirus Payman) 2nd (Shoaib Mohammed), 3rd (Tristan Mann) and Jefferey Koh who placed 4th. Our students competing in the challenge were across all three year groups and studying both BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance and BSc (Hons) in Finance, Investment and Risk.
Jefferey Koh (pictured), a first-year student and who also won the ‘Most Improved Trader’ award in the competition said:
“To start off with I had no experience with any sort of trading whatsoever, but last October the guys from Pipster came into university. Initially I had zero interest in the topic itself but after talking with them I thought it was something definitely worth exploring, to gain experience. Never in a million years did I think I would do this well, to get to the stage of receiving prizes, attending feedback sessions and coming to events like this, which has improved my networking skills and helped to develop myself socially as well. I’m extremely happy to have taken part in the Bull Run competition and I hope it’s a platform for better things to come.”
