LIBF launches new Centre to help finance sector tackle governance, risk and regulation challenges

07 June, 2021
The London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF) today announced the launch of its new Centre for Governance, Risk and Regulation. The Centre aims to create a community of experts to discuss, explain and provide education and training on issues of governance, risk and regulation to finance professionals around the world.

It will look at questions such as:

  • how can boards meet their governance duties concerning such pressing issues as climate change, social development and cyber security?
  • how can a risk appetite framework incorporate new environmental, social and governance risks?
  • what opportunities can organisations pursue in the new digital and sustainable future, while still managing risks and ensuring enhanced compliance?

Alex Fraser, Chief Executive of The London Institute of Banking & Finance says:

“The financial system has arguably become much more resilient and adaptable since the 2008 crisis. But there are also new risks and challenges that all financial institutions – and banks in particular – need to address with urgency. The pandemic has highlighted some of them. From boards to frontline staff, finance sector organisations need to navigate these complex risks and adapt quickly.

“We have a long history of working with governments, central banks and finance organisations around the world, and have built considerable expertise in this area. This Centre focuses that expertise and provides a central hub for experts and professionals to tackle the challenges together.”

Olivier Beroud, Founder of LIBF’s Centre for Governance, Risk and Regulation says:

“We’re creating a global community of expert practitioners who work together to discuss, explain and provide training on matters on governance, risk and regulation. Between them, they have years of experience and in-depth knowledge. By sharing experiences and expertise the Centre aims to help finance sector organisations around the world.”

The Centre brings together a faculty of experienced practitioners, subject matter experts and thought leaders with years of experience at leading financial institutions.

Along with thought leadership, networking and discussion, the Centre will provide bespoke training programmes and workshops for managers, executives and boards to help build knowledge and resilience in the sector.
