Georgina Silvester, Head of Brexit Implementation, Handelsbanken

In the UK, Handelsbanken has recently transferred its UK banking business from a branch of Svenska Handelsbanken AB publ into a wholly owned subsidiary - 'Handelsbanken plc'. This transfer was the largest, undertaking by the Group in recent times. The programme involved a great number of organisational changes, over and above the change in legal structure, including building new functions and capabilities, a new governance structure and new risk management frameworks.

This all took place in an uncertain and changing political and regulatory landscape. Georgina will be talking about how the bank managed this transformation by being proactive and taking control of the process. The bank steered the implementation towards its own goals and objectives through close collaboration with the UK regulators, whilst maintaining the bank's unique business model and strong culture and values.

Georgina Silvester, Head of Brexit Implementation, Handelsbanken

Georgina Silvester was appointed Head of Brexit Implementation in May 2017, after joining the UK bank in 2014.

Prior to that, Georgina was head of Handelsbanken UK Tax function, having been recruited to establish the function from scratch and ensure the bank had the adequate controls and processes in place to meet the growing demand within the tax area.

Georgina's career in tax spans over 20 years, working as the Head of Tax in a variety of financial service groups and FTSE 250 companies. She has often been brought in to set up the tax function from scratch and embed the capabilities to drive compliance and business support through the specialist and technical guidance on complex tax legislation.

Georgina undertook her professional training whilst working in house and is a qualified Chartered Tax professional and a qualified workplace mediator.
