Student Investor Challenge
The Student Investor Challenge gives students the chance to experience what it’s like to invest in stocks and shares. Teams, consisting of four members aged between 14 and 19, invest virtual money in the stock market to see who can get the best results.
In 2019/20 just under 10,000 teams took part from schools across the UK and internationally. 500 teams made it through to the semi-finals, with the eight best performing teams becoming our finalists.
Student Investor Challenge 2019/20 - finals
Due to Covid-19 the live final of the Student Investor Challenge took place virtually in November 2020.
The finalists had to video their presentations, which were then judged virtually by our expert panel.
The winning teams were:
- FIRST place – QuantumFund – Reading School, Reading (pictured)
- SECOND place – Stockaholics – Sevenoaks School, Sevenoaks, Kent
- THIRD place – Titanic Investments – Framlingham College, Woodbridge, Suffolk
Catherine Winter, Managing Director, Financial Capability & Community Outreach at the London Institute of Banking & Finance, said: “This competition is a powerful way of engaging young people with how the finance sector works and relating it to everyday life. We want to help young people feel able to take control of their finances and not be left feeling that money controls them. It’s a vital life skill. This year the teams showed real resilience and agility. They had to produce a video instead of making a live presentation, and the final had to be virtual instead of being held in London. It was a different experience, but one that still allowed these young students to shine and really show off their growing confidence about money and investments.”
Student Investor Challenge 2020/21
