Assessment details and exam venues

We assess each professional qualification differently. The exam venue will depend on which of these applies. The professional qualifications and assessment details are listed below.  

 


Your professional qualification could be assessed by:

    • a Pearson VUE electronic exam
    • a session-based exam, which will take place on a specific day
    • coursework or
    • a combination of assessments


Pearson VUE electronic exam venues

You can take your Pearson VUE electronic exams at one of their test centres at a time and place to suit you.

You can find an exam centre near you on the Pearson VUE website. You will need to book your exam directly with Pearson VUE, online or over the phone.

For most of our exams, you will have 12 months from registering to sit your exam. And if you need to resit your exam, you will be able to do so within 12 months of paying the resit fee.

The exception is the Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics (FSRE) and Certificate in Relationship Management (CertRM) exam. For these qualifications you have nine months to sit the exam, and a nine-month window to resit.

Session-based exam venues

You will find the date of your session-based exam in your MyLIBF account – in the ‘important registration information document’ – and on the course website.

Choose your exam venue when registering. To find your nearest exam venue, look at the qualification assessment details below.

The venue address will be released about five weeks before the exam date in an ‘exam attendance notice’ which you will find in your MyLIBF account. We will let you know by email once your attendance notice is available.

Exam venues vary for each qualification, are reviewed regularly and may change without notice.

Coursework

You will find the submission date for your coursework in your MyLIBF account – on the ‘important registration information' page – and on the course website.

Mortgage Advice

For each module you will be assessed by a two-hour Pearson VUE electronic multiple-choice exam.

  • Module 1, UK Financial Regulation (UKFR) – two units with 50 multiple-choice questions for each unit
  • Module 2, Mortgages (MORT) – four units 25 multiple-choice questions for each unit
  • Module 3, Assessment of Mortgage Advice Knowledge (ASSM) – one unit with six case studies, each with ten linked multiple-choice questions

  • a 90-minute Pearson VUE electronic exam with 50 multiple-choice questions

  • Unit 1, Fundamentals of Equity Release (FOER) – 50 multiple-choice questions
  • Unit 2, Equity Release Solutions (EQRS) – three case studies, each with ten linked multiple-choice questions

 

Financial Advice

There are two units for DipFA which are assessed differently.

For Unit 1, Financial Services Regulation and Ethics (FSRE) you will be assessed through a two-hour Pearson VUE electronic exam with:

  • 90 multiple-choice questions
  • two case studies, each with five linked multiple-choice questions

For Unit 2, Advanced Financial Advice (AFA) you will be assessed by:

  • coursework, submitted online after approximately 16 weeks of study, which will include a main task and short answer questions
  • a three-hour session-based written Pearson VUE electronic exam, based on a task that will be released six weeks before your exam

Adv DipFA has four units, which you can study in any order and which are assessed in different ways.

Three units are compulsory:

  • Taxation, trusts and tax compliance (TTTC)
  • Managing investments (MANI)
  • Pension transfers (PETR)

You will also need to take one specialist option unit with a minimum of 100 learning hours at Level 4 or above.

Many students choose Certificate in Long-term Care and Later Life Planning (CertLTCP). But you may wish to select another qualification, such as CeMAP,  with the minimum 100 learning hours at Level 4 or above.

For Cert LTCP you will be assessed by a two-hour Pearson VUE electronic exam. This will consist of 60 multiple-choice questions and three case studies, each with five linked multiple-choice questions.

The unit on Taxation, trusts and tax compliance (TTTC) consists of coursework and a three-hour session-based written exam with both short and long-answer questions.

For the unit on Pension transfers (PETR) you will be assessed by a three-hour session-based written exam, split into two sections:

  • Section A: based on a pre-released case study
  • Section B: standalone written questions

The unit on Managing investments (MANI) consists of coursework and a three-hour session-based written exam consisting of both short and long-answer questions.

  • Section A – 80 multiple-choice questions
  • Section B – four case studies each with five linked multiple-choice questions

  • Unit 1, The Automotive Finance Marketplace (AFM) –25 multiple-choice questions and one case study with five linked questions
  • Unit 2, UK Automotive Finance Regulation (AFR) – 40 multiple-choice questions
  • Unit 3, Customer Service and Management in an Automotive Finance Environment (CSM) – 15 multiple-choice questions and three case studies with five linked questions

DipAF has three units. For Units 1 and 2 you must submit coursework electronically on the course site and a one-hour Pearson VUE electronic multiple-choice exam.

 

  • Unit 1, Business Management and the Provision of Asset Finance (BMAF) –30 multiple-choice questions
  • Unit 2, The Legal and Regualatory Reqirements of Asset Finance (LRAF) –30 multiple-choice questions

 

For Unit 3, The Sales and Account-Management Processes of Asset Finance (SAAF) you will be assessed by a two-hour Pearson VUE electronic multiple-choice exam and a 3-hour session-based written exam.
